One-Year Fixed term role Ideally Carmarthenshire or Powys – Full Time Salary £17,500 p.a.

The Organisation

Tir Dewi is a charity operating in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion & Pembrokeshire providing support to farmers who are experiencing difficulties via a freephone Helpline and on-farm support work.
We are joining a Wales-wide project which is coming together to explore ways to support and grow local economies and communities. The project’s aim is to support local people who have ideas they want to test out that might bring local people together to do something for the area with a focus on the support that Tir Dewi provides. We will be focusing on the Powys area.

The Role

• Meeting with current volunteers at Tir Dewi in west Wales and assessing the nature of support currently provided.
• Meeting with community leaders, stakeholders and partners in Powys to gain views on the nature of support required there.
• Scoping the extent of current provision – what is provided, by whom and how.
• Leading the creation and management of social media engagement to support the project.
• Working with the Tir Dewi team to plan for the integration of the new project into the existing Tir Dewi service and infrastructure.

Person Specification:

• Farming community background or at least empathy with, passionate about local communities, farming and supporting those with needs.
• Welsh speaker with persuasive, empathic communication skills.
• Able to travel independently (please note, some lone working will be involved).
• Ideally located in the Carmarthenshire area with access to west Wales and Powys. The ability to work at home would be useful.
• Self-motivated, self-organised.

Job Description

Salary – £17,550 (or pro rata)
Hours – flexible, up to 37.5 per week. Applications from people wanting part-time work accepted; please state on the application.
Holidays – 20 days plus Bank holidays.

Tir Dewi

Tir Dewi is a charity operating in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion & Pembrokeshire providing support to farmers who are experiencing difficulties via a freephone Helpline and on-farm support work. We provide our support entirely through volunteers and work closely in partnership with other organisations involved in the farming community. Tir Dewi has a stated aim of extending its service provision into Powys and wishes to undertake a current service review and community consultation in the target area to ensure that the service meets the needs of the farming community from 2020 onwards.

Llechi, Glo a Chefn Gwlad

Llechi, Glo a Chefn Gwlad is a partnership of nine locally grown third sector organisations working in different communities across Wales. The partners have come together to explore ways to support and grow the local economy and community. The project’s aim is to support local people who have ideas they want to test out that might:

• Bring local people together to do something for the area
• Strengthen links between local businesses and people in the area
• Develop a new social enterprise

The partners are looking particularly at the “foundational economy” (that is all the day to day things that every community needs, such as food, housing, electricity, health and care, and transport); things that must be available locally and should increasingly be sourced locally. Llechi, Glo a Chefn Gwlad will add to the many examples of how, with the right opportunities and skills, people develop ownership of, commitment to and a positive impact on the local economy.

Time to Shine

In addition, the successful candidate will join the Rank Foundation’s Time to Shine programme, which will involve attending three national training events with other interns from across the UK and the eight other Llechi, Glo a Chefn Gwlad interns. It is a requirement of the post to attend these events (all expenses will be paid) and provide reports to the Rank Foundation.

Job Purpose:

We are looking for people who have ideas they want to explore or develop to help strengthen the foundational economy in their community. This is an opportunity for someone to work for a year with Tir Dewi as part of Llechi, Glo a Chefn Gwlad, take part in training provided by the Llechi, Glo a Chefn Gwlad programme.

We envisage that this will include:

• Meeting with current volunteers at Tir Dewi and assessing the nature of support currently provided, including analysis of casework database.
• Meeting with community leaders, stakeholders and partners in the target area to gain views on the nature of support required there.
• Scoping the extent of current provision – what is provided, by whom and how.
• Keep records and write reports.
• Lead the creation and management of social media engagement to support the project.
• Plan for the integration of the new project into the existing Tir Dewi service and infrastructure including stakeholder engagement, volunteer engagement and social media.

Stage 2

Following a stage 1 interview with Tir Dewi at the beginning of November, a stage 2 interview involving the candidate and Tir Dewi representatives will be held by the funder at the end of November. Subject to success at the second stage, employment will commence in January 2019.
